Weekly Update from Rep. Love - July 13, 2016

Statement

I am very excited about co-hosting a Facebook Live Town Hall meeting with Speaker Paul Ryan this week. Watch the Town Hall meeting here. We focused on the House Republican Plan, "A Better Way" and specifically discussed issues surrounding Poverty and Upward Mobility. Our ideas center on providing opportunities for people and helping Americans feel like they have control over the success of their own lives.

"It is not enough to give someone exactly what they need to stay exactly where they are."

I encourage you to read more on all the Better Way plans at better.gop.

Also this week, I helped kick off legislation based on the Mountain Accord, which is a long-term plan for management of the canyons east of Salt Lake City.

I am co-sponsoring Rep. Chaffetz's bill to protect nearly 80,000 acres of public land, including critical watershed, scenic ridgelines, spectacular landscapes and recreation areas.

I have been an advocate for preserving access to Utah's beauty, by supporting the funding of the Forest Service purchase of 730 acres of land in Millcreek Canyon, previously owned by the Boy Scouts.

My continued support for the principles of Article 1--returning power to Congress and away from faceless bureaucrats--is reflected in my support of SOPRA, The Separation of Powers Restoration Act, (H.R. 4768). The bill reins in the unchecked power of regulators, who don't answer to the American people, and returns power to Congress as the Constitution intended.

I have introduced my own bill H.R. 5490, which would specifically return the Constitutional power to interpret consumer financial laws back into the hands of courts, and away from a particularly unaccountable agency--the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
